Today is Dr. Jane Goodall's 80th birthday. And so I thought it the right time to share this image. It is quite possible that this book would never have come to be had it not been for the encouragement of Dr. Goodall. She took the time out of her incredibly busy life to offer words of support when I was still writing, and that changed everything. It changed how publishers viewed the project, how friends and family viewed it, and even how I myself perceived it. Today Dr. Goodall is a treasured friend who I owe dearly - a debt I can only repay by continuing to protect all those things green and good in the world.

Staring into Faces in the Jungle
This week, once again, uncontacted tribes have been photographed from the air on the Peruvian/Brazilian boarder. Looking at these pictures instantly gave me a shot of adrenaline and brought back a fear that I have been trying to forget for a few years now. On the rainy day when I ran into a nomadic tribe, I knew my life was in danger. I knew that their lives were in danger due to my germs. But there was something more, I found myself completely terrified of their faces. And walking through the forest, now, I often turn quickly when the feeling on my spine tingles in wonder that they could be there watching.
Jaguar Breath on My Ear at Night...
I cannot describe what it is like to wake up in the darkness of the jungle, completely alone. You know you are miles from the nearest person, and surrounded by millions and millions of trees. The stars are invisible beneath the canopy, as your hammock rocks gently, and warm breath falls in savage staccato on your neck. The claws, the teeth, those eyes... Invisible just inches from your face. Read more in this sample CLICK HERE:

Indiana Jones and the Amazon
The internet is abuzz with talk of Bradley Cooper playing Indiana Jones. I think it could work. But I hope that instead of just hunting for treasure, the new Jones is after something bigger - maybe species? This would be a great time to include a conservation message into a mainstream adventure. But until Bradley Cooper confirms, I guess we are left with the real life Indiana Jones of the Amazon!
